The Marauder's Map was drawn by four students who knew Hogwarts better than most of the staff - Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs. Fred and George Weasley passed it to Harry in Prisoner of Azkaban, having lifted it years earlier from the caretaker's collection of confiscated items.
