Metal and the pin fastening
Badges here are metal with a conventional pin fastening, which holds on any fabric from a canvas bag to a wool coat and can be moved between them. Metal keeps its colour and does not fray the way an embroidered patch does at the edges.
The pin is a sharp, small part. Badges are not suitable for children under three because of the risk of injury or swallowing, and younger children should use them under adult supervision. Each badge weighs around 10 grams, so even a set of several will not pull on a light bag.
As a small gift
A badge is the smallest thing in the shop that still carries a clear message, which makes it the usual choice to add to a larger present or to put in an advent calendar. For someone who already owns the obvious things, the prefect badge and the Ministry of Magic badge are the ones they probably do not have.
