How the cutter and embosser work together
Each PME Cakes set is two plastic parts. You cut the rolled dough with the outer shape, then press the embosser into the cut biscuit to stamp the detail — the serpent in the Slytherin crest, the folds of the Sorting Hat, the lines of the Deathly Hallows symbol.
The practical consequence: the detail survives baking. A cutter without an embosser gives you a silhouette, which on a house crest is not enough to tell the four houses apart.

Cutters or moulds?
Two different techniques, and people often want both.
Plastic cutters with embosser
For rolled biscuit dough and for sugarpaste or fondant plaques you lay on top of a cake. Material is plastic, roughly 1.5 cm deep. Hand wash.
Silicone moulds
Food-grade silicone trays from Cinereplicas for chocolate and for ice — one tray of house crests with the Sorting Hat, and a Chocolate Frog mould. You pour rather than cut, so you get a solid three-dimensional shape.
Using them with the rest of the baking range
The cutters shape the biscuit; the decoration goes on afterwards. Edible gum-paste figures and sprinkles sit in the sugar decorations category, muffin cases and cake toppers in theirs. A full themed table usually ends up using three of the four.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need the embosser, or is the cutter enough?
For a plain shape such as Hedwig the cutter alone works. For a house crest the embosser is what makes it recognisable — without it you get an outline and no detail. Both parts are included in the PME sets.
Can I use these on fondant and sugarpaste as well as dough?
Yes. Roll the paste to an even thickness, cut, then emboss. Fondant holds the detail more sharply than biscuit dough, which rises slightly in the oven.
Are they dishwasher safe?
No. Hand wash the plastic cutters and embossers in warm water and dry them before storing, so the two parts do not stick together.
What is the difference between a cutter and a silicone mould?
A cutter shapes flat dough or paste. A silicone mould is a tray you pour melted chocolate or water into, which sets into a solid shape — used for chocolates and for themed ice cubes.
How do you say cookie cutter in Czech?
Vykrajovatko. The silicone moulds are formicky. You will see both words on the Czech version of these product pages.
