What 925/1000 means
Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver, the remaining 7.5% being other metals that give it the hardness jewellery needs — pure silver is too soft to hold a clasp. The number 925 stamped on a piece is the statement of that purity, and it is why the category is named after it rather than after a product.
The practical difference from the plated range: the metal is silver all the way through, so there is no plating to wear off, and it can be polished back when it tarnishes. We keep a separate guide to Czech hallmarks if you want to know how the marking system works here.

Golden Snitch stud earrings, premium edition
Sterling silver 925/1000 with a gold-plated detail. Pendant approximately 10 × 10 mm, weight approximately 2 g per pair, by The Carat Shop. The Snitch’s wings are the gold-plated part, so the piece reads as two metals rather than one.
Caring for silver
Silver tarnishes — it reacts with sulphur in the air, which is normal and reversible. Keep the earrings in a closed box rather than open on a dresser, wipe them with a soft cloth after wearing, and avoid perfume and chlorinated water on the metal. A tarnished piece polishes back to new; a worn plated piece does not.

Frequently asked questions
What does 925/1000 mean?
That the metal is 92.5% pure silver. The rest is alloy that gives the piece the hardness it needs to hold its shape and its clasp. It is the international standard for sterling silver.
How is this different from the silver-plated jewellery?
Plated pieces are a base metal with a thin silver layer that wears over years. Sterling silver is the same metal throughout, so it can be polished back indefinitely.
Will it tarnish?
Yes, and that is normal — silver reacts with sulphur in the air. A soft cloth restores it. Storing the earrings in a closed box slows it down considerably.
Is it suitable for sensitive ears?
Sterling silver is tolerated better than most plated alloys, but it is not nickel-free by definition. If you react to costume jewellery, check with your doctor before wearing any metal in a piercing.
Is it hallmarked?
The purity is stated as 925/1000 on the product page. Our separate guide explains how Czech hallmarking works and what the marks look like.
How do you say sterling silver in Czech?
Stribro, with the purity written as ryzost 925/1000. Stribrne sperky means silver jewellery.
Is this an officially licensed product?
Yes. It carries the official Wizarding World licence from Warner Bros., like everything else we sell.
