Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans turn up on the very first journey to Hogwarts, bought from the trolley witch somewhere between King's Cross and the castle. Ron explains the catch to Harry straight away: every flavour means every flavour, and the list runs from chocolate and peppermint through to spinach, liver and tripe.
Dumbledore avoids them entirely. He tells Harry he lost his taste for them as a young man after a bean that turned out to be earwax, and in the last book he is unlucky enough to find another.
